Trust Council minutes for March 2015

Trust Council met on Tuesday 10th March 2015.  It noted that 2015 marked 25 years since the reopening of the canal by HM the Queen.  It agreed to invite the Canal & River Trust to partner the Trust in organising an event at Caen Hill in August to celebrate 25 years of the Kennet & Avon.

Trustees also reviewed work at Crofton: to recruit a new site manager; to find a new catering partner; to reopen for steaming at Easter using an entirely volunteer workforce; and plans for refurbishment, restoration and fund raising.

The Butty - Spring 2015. Now out

Our acclaimed member's magazine, The Butty, was delivered to members today.  The magazine is available to read on-line by clicking HERE.

There's plenty to read about with news from our volunteers up and down the canal.  There's also some fascinating snippets from the archives and memories from Vice President, Bill Fisher, one of our longest standing members.

Non members will be able to pick up a copy from one of our sites over the Easter weekend (Crofton in steam will be nice and warm!).  All we ask is a small donation towards our printing costs.  But, if you like what you read, why not join us and receive The Butty on your doormat every Spring and Autumn.  And you'll be supporting our work to Protect, Enhance and Promote the lovely K&A.

Trust Council Minutes for February 2015

Trust Council met on Tuesday 10th February 2015.   Trustees noted than 2015 marks 25 years since HM The Queen reopened the canal in August 1990.  Ideas for an event marking the anniversary were discussed and the Council agreed that the Trust should renew its event display material.

Trust Council also agreed to co-opt Will Job as a trustee with a view to him becoming Chairman of Enterprise in due course.  Will is new to the Trust and has a background in business and has been a driving force with Rotary in Newbury.

Trust Council met on 13th January.  The meeting reviewed spending, cash flow and budget commitments for 2015.  Treasurer Tony Nares advised that the Trust was unlikely to need to use its overdraft facility this winter.

The Charity Commission had rejected the revised charitable objects agreed at the AGM last May.  Trust Council approved a redraft that captured the same principles but expressed them within the rather restrictive terms required by the Charity Commission.  These have now been resubmitted to the Commission ahead of placing the draft before members at the next AGM in May this year.
